Queensland's Gold Coast is one of Australia's most famous beaches. Located a couple of hours from Brisbane, it is overlooked by a number of highrise buildings, giving it a look not dissimilar to Miami. The tropical coastline and metropolitan skyline combine to make it an interesting subject for some candid portrait photography.
This particular shot was taken in the town of Surfers Paradise, using my often-favoured Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens. Set to f/2.8 (close to the sweet spot) the in-focus areas are remarkably crisp, and the soft subtle bokeh helps to draw attention to the subject.
